CITY OF BOVEY EVENTS

UTILITY PAYMENTS

All Public Utilities payments can be mailed to PO Box 399, Bovey MN 55709 OR brought to City Hall during regular hours OR placed in the drop off box to the right of the front entrance of City Hall OR you may call the City Clerk at 218-245-1633 to pay with a credit card (there is a convenience fee).

GRASS/BRUSH HAULING POLICY

The Bovey City Public Works Department will pick up bags of organic yard wastes (leaves, grass clippings, flowers, plant, etc.) that are contained in paper  recyclable bags up to 30 lbs.  These bags are available for purchase at many local retailers.  Yard waste not contained in these bags, WILL NOT be picked up and the property owner may be cited.  As an additional service, the street crew will haul SMALL brush piles.  These services are available beginning approximately May 1st and ending around November 1st.

Please neatly stack the brush pile you wish to have picked up and place them on the edge of your property next to the alley.

MN STATE LAW PROHIBITS DEPOSITING ANY KIND OF DEBRIS IN ROADWAYS.

GARBAGE PICKUP

Residents are reminded that the garbage you pout out for pickup MUST BE bagged and fully contained within an approved solid waste container AND covered with a watertight lid.  During wet months, the tonnage increases due to rain soaked garbage.  Uncovered containers also attract flies which in turn lay eggs which hatch into maggots.  It is no joy to empty a wet garbage can full of maggots. In the winter, please keep a path shoveled from the alley to your garbage container location. The City will be patrolling and issuing citations for garbage violations.  The citation may be as high as $50.00. (A good container costs less  than half of that.)  If the costs keep increasing due to lack of due diligence, the monthly rates will have to be increased.

RECYCLING

The City, along with Deer River Hired Hands offers recycling at this time.  There are recycling dumpsters located between the Post Office and Fire Hall. The dumpsters are labeled for paper, cardboard and plastic/tin/aluminum. Please break down your cardboard and put recyclables into their proper dumpster.

WELL HEAD PROTECTION PLAN

The City of Bovey continues to take steps to protect our drinking water supply through the implementation of the City's Wellhead Protection Plan.  The Plan is a document prepared by members of the City Council, City Staff and the Minnesota Department of Health, which was adopted in 2011 to monitor activities and land uses that could potentially affect the City's drinking water. The Drinking  Water Supply Management Area (DWSMA) is a specific area delineated as the recharge area for the City's wells.  This DWSMA must be monitored because the source water is moderately susceptable to contamination.  The City monitors uses and activities to avoid contamination from improperly constructed or maintained wells, nitrate-nitrogen from seepage and fertilizer, and contaminants such as fuels, solvents or pesticides.  The Wellhead Protection Plan is available for viewing or downloading on the City website.  If you have any questions regarding Wellhead Protection, please call City Hall at 218-245-1633.
